 Historically, by the late 18th Century in Britain almost all duels were fought with pistols. Perhaps Briney should reflect this?

 hmm we may look BUT it takes away some sort of skill as all you can do is point and shoot even allowing a factor for bravery say to flinch or pull too early will not reflect the skill needed in a sword fight....

I would prefer to use the bladed weapons. As such, if agent.pumpkin challenged me for cause, I could pick the blades instead of the pistols.

 An 18thC adaptation of a 17thC themed game... Adding realism can only go so far. I don't know how we would sort it if one guy was carrying a pistol and the other had a sword when they met as rivals at a club.

Seriously, I agree you can only do so much, and swords are more fun than pistols. but maybe pistols could be considered for the next rules rewrite, sometime.
Since duelling is a matter of honour, I think, as The Celt said, it would be up to the gentlemen concerned to decide on the choice of weapon.
