I'm beginning to believe this game is actually an exquisitely sublime study on game loyalty.

I would suggest that in the case of a character earning more SP than is necessary to maintain their current SL, but not the "3x(newSL) required to advance, that the character first pay out their current SL in SP to maintain (as per the exisitingrules), but then keep any overage as carryover.

Rationale: in games where this has not been done, I have seen virtually no sociual, "club" interaction unless someone's tally of their fixed SP indicates that a brief burst of Sp in a given month will "put them over". In that case, the minimum necessary amount would be done.

Rationale for not asking for a general carryover: I do not propose that this carryover accrue if the 3XSL has been met. To do that can result in a "rich get richer" acceleration, especially once MiDs and holdings start piling up.

Example: It might occur to my character NH to hold a large party at a club, and to invite everyone from SL1 up, since he would not, at least, get hammered by negative SL differential. This would require a largish outlay of funds and would provide others with some free SP (espepecially those that cannot get a club at all this turn) and a venue for a great many to roleplay the turn result outcomes. However, there is no reason to squander funds at all beyond the 2 or 3 folks necessary for him to maintain current SL, unless he can be absolutely sure that he would hit 3x(newSL), under the current rules. If he were rolling in guineas, he might do so anyway, but he is not.

I will leave Carol to answer this BUT my objection would be that ppl only accure SP in the month they do actions, carrying it over would be like saying remeber that party I had a few months ago? What a party that was....

Where as WHAT a party that was last week a really good one.

When I've seen rules with carry over, it takes 4x SL to go up. It may be something to consider, but we're starting with the basic 3x new SL to rise, no carry over.

Read and understood.

Regarding the "remember that party", SP may not necessarily be that specific. Some are for appointments, mistresses, rank/berths, MiDs, etc. and so really could (and do for MiDs) persist.

I am content. I have seen games that use carryover run into problems late in the game, especially if they allow carryover beyond that necessary to gain the next SL. Certainly carryover shortens the life of the game if one considers that it can be "won" at a certain SL.

I will be interested to see how self-sacrificing folks are, in the way of parties. There is no numerical reason to socialise in the game, unless one would "hit the target". I certainly held all sorts of "freebies" parties in my many game roles, as some of you will know, but that was after my characters had become successful and had largesse to spare
